Reverse Osmosis System

November 9th, 2017

You can install a reverse osmosis system for water treatment in your home or office. It isn’t hard. A few household tools and a moderate effort, and you can be drinking a fine glass of water that you didn’t haul home from the store. It may beat home delivery in price and should deliver the quality you want.

There are some limitations to the RO system. It won’t put out a Niagara of water. Several gallons of incoming water are needed to produce each gallon of treated water. There are some contaminates that RO won’t remove, such as radon. And reverse osmosis systems do require maintenance. Chlorine in your incoming water can damage the membrane of your treatment system, allowing contaminates to pass into your water. Be sure to learn about your system and follow the recommendations of the manufacturer.

Be realistic about your needs. If you are want a whole-house treatment system, then you will probably need to consult a professional. There are pretreatment and post-filtering options to explore. Enough water for all the needs of a family requires a different system than a few glasses and pot of spaghetti water in the kitchen.

Either way, do-it-yourself or call in the plumbers, be sure to educate yourself and be prepared to make the right choices. Have your water tested and know what your needs are. Then you will know if a reverse osmosis water system is right for you.
