The compressor is first in line. It compresses the refrigerant, raising its temperature in the process. Then comes the condenser, where the refrigerant gives up some of its heat. From the condenser the refrigerant, now cooled considerably, passes through an expansion valve. The next step is the evaporator coil, where heat is removed from the air.

This is a simplification of the processes, without discussion of the real technicalities. If the system fails, you will need the help of a technician with a complete knowledge of how the system works and how to fix it when it does not work properly. A call to your local qualified AC specialist will bring such a person to your aid. A prompt and efficient repair will get you back in your cool comfort zone.
