Calling A Heating Contractor

November 9th, 2017

Do you think it’s time to call a heating contractor? Here are some things to think about and some simple checks to make before you make the call.

Is the power on? Make sure the connection is there. Check your fuses or breaker box. Be careful, but you should be able to fix that yourself.

How are you hooked up? Sometimes there is a separate switch for the system. Make sure it is on. Getting the power flowing again should have you warming up quickly.

What about the button? There may be a reset button on your system. Try it. Give it a little time. If the system doesn’t start functioning in a half-hour or so, it’s probably time to call the heating contractor.

Are you out of gas? Check the source for whatever your system uses. Check to be sure you have heating oil. If your system is gas, see if the pilot is lit, that you have gas, and that the supply is on.

Is your thermostat set? Check the thermostat. You might turn it up a little, maybe five degree or so, then wait to see if the heat comes on. Remember to reset to your comfort level when you’ve done the test.

Have you tried all that? After trying all the above, hopefully you’ve discovered the problem and are toasty again. If you are still not getting the heat supply you need, you’ll want to call a heating contractor to figure out the problem and get you back in comfort again.
