If you could see the problem coming, that would give you a jump on the situation. So if you should notice a slowing of the flush, take some steps before you have to face a fully plugged toilet. You can lift the lid to the toilet tank, raise the valve, and allow some water to flow. If the water in the bowl rises and does not go anywhere after twenty minutes or so, it is clogged and you need to take some action.
