Tuneup Your AC For Summer

Wherever we live, it is time to start thinking about air conditioning. It may be past the time to start thinking, and well into the season of doing something about it. But either way, let’s get started. Here are some things we can do.

1.  We can clean the place up a bit, can’t we? If wind-blown leaves or other debris are blocking the flow of air, the AC can’t do its job. We can also clear away any old lawn furniture or bags of leaves we should have disposed of last fall. Than might help. While we’re at it, let’s trim back the shrubbery. That’ll look nice, as well as giving a good clean flow of air.

2. We can get the filters in shape for summer; that’s not too hard. The disposable type we’ll dispose of and replace with new ones. The cleanable type we will clean, using the recommended cleaning procedure. Then we’ll be done, and a looking forward to saving money on the AC bill, as well as assuring long life for the AC unit.

3.  We may be able check and clean the drain. That’s an important part of maintenance. A plugged up drain can lead to water damage inside the home. But if we don’t know how to do that, let’s do the smart thing and call a contractor to get it checked out.

We can do a lot around the house. But sometimes we need to use our good judgment in selecting the tasks. Electrical equipment must be approached with care, and damage to ourselves and the equipment can result from ill-advised maintenance attempts. After we take care of the filters and the debris, perhaps we should consider calling a qualified contractor to get that air conditioner ready for summer service.
