Toilet Troubles:

Are you the designated first responder to plumbing emergencies in your home? If so, you probably know how horrible it can be to face a clogged toilet before you’ve even had your second cup of coffee. Fortunately for clog and overflow first responders, the clogged toilet can usually be cured with only a tool or two plus a little know-how. A plunger is the first line of attack, followed by the plumber’s auger, also known as a snake.

If you have tried one of the corrosive toilet unclogging chemicals, you should don protective gear before you plunge. You will need gloves and some kind of eye covering. Apply the plunger, and began the back-and-forth motion that will hopefully break up the clog and allow the toilet to flush. If several sessions of plunging do not result in a successful flush, get busy with the auger.

If these measure fail, it is likely time to phone the plumber. Be prepared, and try your home methods first, by all means, but have that number handy in case your ways and means don’t meet the demands of the situation. A real plumber is a real friend when you are faced with a toilet clog that will not respond to your home remedies.
