A plunger is the first thing we reach for. It should be one of two, actually, a flat-faced plunger for sinks, and a flange type plunger for toilets. Beyond the plunger stage, there is the snake or plumber’s auger. These also come in various styles for different applications.

In addition to tools, there are chemicals, both home pantry staples like baking soda and vinegar, and commercial products, often including dangerous caustic substances. Be careful.

Prevention is wise as well. Be careful what you and yours put down that drain, and you might not have to face the problem.
