Drain Clogs:

From time to time we all must deal with a clogged drain. When that happens, it is wise to be prepared with some simple tools and techniques for quick intervention.

A plunger is the first thing we reach for. It should be one of two, actually, a flat-faced plunger for sinks, and a flange type plunger for toilets. Beyond the plunger stage, there is the snake or plumber’s auger. These also come in various styles for different applications.

In addition to tools, there are chemicals, both home pantry staples like baking soda and vinegar, and commercial products, often including dangerous caustic substances. Be careful.

Prevention is wise as well. Be careful what you and yours put down that drain, and you might not have to face the problem. But if the worst happens and the water starts to back up on you, it may be time to call your local plumber. They will be ready to respond and get your drains flowing properly again
